3T is twice as good.  Be certain use 3T.

We have been creating the finest MRI images in Delaware since February 2007.  Breast MRI is superb at 3T.  A recent paper 5/1/09 corroborates this statement.  Please do a web search on 3T Breast MRI.  In that study 3TMRI could detect cancers in 100% of their patients.  Because we are faster and have more signal to noise we can scan thinner as well. This allows us to make the BEST Breast MRI images possible in the shortest time.  If we need to reduce the study time the most important images take only 7 minutes to acquire.

Our facility is the most advanced MRI facility in Delaware.  We have functional MRI capabilities.  Please press the button below (about Dr Chao)  if you want to see more information about my resume and that he is the only double MR fellowshipped radiologist in Delaware.  Pelvic MRI is underutilized.  In men we can see prostate cancer and its spread to regional lymph nodes.  In women we can stage cervical and endometrial cancers and detect endometriosis non invasively.  Because we are 3T - we do not have to use an endorectal coil.  When patients see the difference - they ALWAYS choose 3T.

MRI Consultants LLC was formed to bring the best MRI technology to Delaware.  After having worked in Delaware since 1990 Dr. Philip W Chao wanted to bring the best MRI technology to Delaware.  3T is MRI done at 3 Tesla.  This means we are able to scan with twice the detail as any other scanner or twice as fast.  We are the first 3T in Delaware.  Shoulder exams can be completed in 8 minutes but generally we do a 12 minute study.  Lumbar scans without contrast might be as fast as 10 minutes.  The stronger magnetic field also increases our contrast so we can see more lesions or more metastases.  Scanning at 3T with 1/2 dose Prohance contrast is the equivalent of scanning with single dose contrast.  3T is twice as good.  We use the safest MR contrast in the world.  Safety should not be optional.

MRI Consultants is located in the Abby Medical Center at the junction of Rt 4 and Rt 7 just down the street from Christiana Medical Center. Although the address is 1 Centurian Drive - it does not show up properly on Mapquest or yahoo Maps.  However the driving directions sometimes puts you across the street.  So just in case here are manual instructions.  It probably is easiest to give you instructions from I-95.  Coming from the north you can take exit 4B towards Christiana Hospital.  After you cross under Rt. (1) 7 you can proceed on Chuchmans Road to Route 4  (just opposite the western entrance to Delaware Park) and turn right.  You may also take Old Churchman's Road to Rt. 4 and turn right.  We are the next driveway on the right just past Old Churchman's Road.  We are in Suite 107 in the back of the building.  Coming from the south you simply exit at 4B and take Churchmans Road till it ends and turn right onto Rt 4. east   Proceed past the traffic light at Old Churchman's Road and turn right into the next driveway. Park in the rear.  We apologize that the computerized mapping agents are faulty when it comes to our location but... We have tried for 2 years to fix this.

Our offices were designed from the ground up to be the most pleasant and comfortable offices for our patients and we hope you stop in to check out the spacious waiting rooms.  The sound systems are designed to soothe the patients as they travel through our our offices.   We have a massage chair in the office which is free.  So you have a massage before and after your MR scan.  We can scan your study in the least time possible.  Our office was designed with the new ACR guidelines for MRI offices.  We have a paperless electronic medical record.  There is a SPA in our building - SOLUTIONS Spa . (We are not affiliated with them in any way) but suggest you might consider a massage or aromatherapy if you need to be relaxed before your MRI study (302-998-4000.)   You have a choice.  Choose the best MRI for you.

We have a focus on pediatrics because 3T MRI is actually better for small bodies and children.  When the structures are smaller you need more resolution and detail to see the same structures.   Children's hospital of Philadelphia has two 3T MRI units.  I actually visited CHOP just before purchasing my current magnet.  MRI uses no ionizing radiation and recently the risk estimate for cancer caused by an x-ray CAT SCAN has been doubled to 1 in 550 in children.   Some CT scans are the equivalent of 5-6 CT scans.  So the risk can be as high as 1 in 100.  Therefore before you get a CAT SCAN for your child please check with us to see if MRI technology can give you an equivalent answer without the risk of x-ray study.  In adults the risk of getting cancer from a CAT SCAN is 1 in 200. That still is significant. These are estimates but we have seen a large increasing number of lymphomas and leukemias in his country in the past decade which parallel the increase in medical irradiation.  If your CT scan includes contrast the risk of contrast induced nephropathy is significant.  1 in 20 patients develops this and 1 in 50 may require hospitalization.  If you do a CT scan and then follow it with an MRI study - if you patient is older - from age 50-60 you might be putting your patient at risk for NSF (Nephrogenic systemic sclerosis).  I prefer to do MRI first before CT because MRI contrast is not nephrotoxic.    These risk estimates are not often discussed by radiologists.  Please also check our companion website www.3t-mri.net  www.bestopenmri.net  www.safecontrast.com
