The two pre-eminent scanners in the world are the 3T Trio and the 3T OPEN BORE Verio. The Verio was introduced in December 2007. It combines a wide open bore (approximately 30 inch opening) and the super high quality of 3T. I like to say the Verio is the combination of our 3T Trio and our 1.5TSiemens Espree - combined into one scanner. The 3T Trio has been adopted by many universities as their premier imaging machine. Siemens has the greatest clinical base and now with the Verio also has the ability to scan the largest patients (up to 550 pounds). We also scan faster or with more detail. We automatically get twice the signal to noise as a 1.5T unit and we also get twice the effective contrast when using safest Prohance IV Gadolinium contrast. In fact one study suggested that you could detect as many as 37% more MS plaques on 3T images. 3T is twice as good as 1.5T and if you are scanned on a lesser scanner you will always wonder if there was something that could be picked up that wasn't. The fact that contrast is doubled means we can use 1/2 dose Prohance contrast which is safer for the patients. (www.safecontrast.com) Using less contrast to get the same result is safest for the patient. In patients with renal failure we can do the study with 1/4 dose contrast. Recently a new disease seen predominantly in older patients with kidney failure was described. Our facilities screened immediately since last May 2007 for reduced renal function. We now have an istat-1, which allows us to screen for your serum creatinine in the office at no additional charge. We were the first facility in Delaware to start protecting our patients.
Our facilities were designed from the ground up to be the most patient friendly MRI office you have ever visited. We encourage you to visit us. We have projectors in the waiting room which can project a virtual environment such a beach scene or a spaceship for children. We have speakers mounted on the walls unobtrusively that can deliver the sound of waves at a beach in Cape Cod, or play movies which children would enjoy. We want our patients to be comfortable and also have activities while they are waiting for their study. There are internet kiosks in the office as well as MP3 players for you to use or personal DVD players with noise reducing headphones.
Our scan room is equipped with materials to deaden sound and our patients wear an Avotec Silent Scan 3100 headphone set to reduce noise in the scanner. We will have the capability of doing functional MRI. We can detect if the patient is lying.
